Today is the ing nyc marathon, which runs through 5 boroughs, 26.2 miles, ending in central park. I stood by the roadside in 4th avenue, brooklyn just as the women were getting off the verrazano bridge, went to get a tea from the chinese bakery, and whoosh! - the lead pack went by. Paula Radcliffe, 2-time winner, and Kara Goucher, NYC native and rookie and two other women crossed the block in about five strides. The men were no better - blink and you miss them! I think runners are beautiful, all muscle and sinew, the human form at its best. But what I love about this race is the mix of people - runners of all shapes and sizes. Incidentally, the hosts mentioned a lot of the elite women are in their 30s and beyond. This is really inspiring to someone like me who's never been physically active - it's not too late to start. This is a very tough course by the way - lots of uphills and with today's winds, really hard. Anyone who finishes it or runs it at all is amazing. I took a bad picture but look closely - it's 38,000 people from all over the world running through the streets of crooklyn!

Haha one thing I realized during my current hiatus is that you can put anything you put your mind to. Hence my creation of a new and improved bucket list. I've only crossed out 2 things out of a 100 but it's fun to know that I'm 98 steps away from "a life well-lived". One of my entries is "Run in a marathon and finish it." Last halloween I stared at a couple of marathon runners rush past our car and I got inggit. Despite having a horrendously unfit body, I registered for a 5k run at the Fort, practiced running for 2 days, and surprisingly finished it last Sunday while running most of the way. (Oo, milagro ito). I just registered for the UNICEF run. It's still 5k but I have to build myself up so I can be fit enough to run 10k a few months from now. Still far from the usual 42km marathon but 37km closer to achieving it:) You can do anything, dear, even finish a marathon:)

Oh by the way, did I ever mention that your writing is exquisite? Hahaha:)I'm still a huge fan! Mwah! Miss ya chick!

bru!!! congrats! kayang-kaya mo yun, ikaw pa. 5k is 2.5 miles ba? wow, nakakainggit ka. alam mo nakaka-inspire talaga nung dumadaan sila. meron nga 80 and up category tapos araw-araw nag-ttrain yung mga lola habang ako ay nanonood lang ng family guy at kumakain ng cereal. but i'm glad to know you're doing that. malay mo, in no time at all, kaya mo na yung 42km. i miss you, bodge. salamat. ikaw ha, di ka na sumusulat. i am your biggest fan! naks, mutual admiration society.
